Section 289
Don't kill or beat cows, bulls
(1) No one shall do or cause to be done any act with the intention of killing a cow or a bullock or causing any injury.
(2) If any cow or bull dies as a result of the act under sub-section (1), the person who commits such an offense shall be imprisoned for up to three years.
(3) If anyone mutilates a cow or bull, he shall be imprisoned for six months and shall be fined up to fifty thousand rupees. (4) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), if any cow or ox dies or causes any injury to such cow or ox while doing any act necessary to save his or her life or the life or death of others. It shall not be considered as an offense under this section.
